ALKESTIS AZAKIDI
Alkestis is a multidisciplinary interior architect working across interiors, furniture design and 3D visualisation. She works through a research-led practice, with spatial analysis and precise measurements. She excels in compact, challenging spaces, making every square meter count. Yet beyond the metrics, she places strong emphasis on conceptual design and spatial storytelling, aligned with intended use, carrying projects from brief to construction. Her main goal: to sense, envision, form and compose experience.
Having lived in Berlin, she explored studio furniture, sharpening her focus on sculptural, custom-designed pieces and developing furniture concepts in collaboration with a master carpenter. In parallel, she completed specialised software training that refined her photorealistic model-to-fabrication workflow. Her background in music (piano and drums), along with sketching, photography and digital art, informs rhythm, layering and composition, while a long-standing interest in philosophy underpins her creative process. This multidisciplinary foundation strengthens the conceptual coherence and artistic direction of her work.
Born in Athens, Greece in 1996, currently based in Athens.

A pivotal point in her academic journey was marked by the culmination of her studies through the completion of her research paper ‘The Effect of Space on Human Perception.’ This research endeavors to explore how space influences human perception, striving to approach the objectivity of this complex subject.
The study takes an integrated approach, considering not only the design elements of a space but also delving into the underlying psychological and neurological processes that shape human reactions. Additionally, it adopts a philosophical perspective by examining the works of architects and theorists who approached the subject from a phenomenological standpoint. In conclusion, this investigation has delved into the impact of architecture on human perception and the ways in which design can strategically shape and influence user experience through an informed understanding of neurology, psychology, and related sciences.

The Exarcheia neighborhood in Athens is known for its cultural vitality, political history, and tradition of resistance. Once home to occupations that supported immigrants and grassroots initiatives, the area now faces gentrification pressures that threaten its identity.
This thesis proposes repurposing a former occupation site into a cultural center functioning as an artistic residency. Titled “You Are Connected”, the project highlights the relationship between people, technology, and information. It combines exhibition spaces and interactive installations with classrooms, workstations, and digital tools such as 3D printers and projection systems. Artists are hosted in studios and apartments, offered free of charge in exchange for their participation in public events, while a swap library and a central bar-café encourage dialogue, learning, and exchange.
The project aims to preserve Exarcheia’s alternative and experimental culture while adapting it to contemporary urban needs, ensuring that the neighborhood remains a hub of multiculturalism, solidarity, and creativity.
